Charlevoix in Sienna-Blue

I had been criticized lately. Criticized by a photographer that is following my work since a while. I was wondering why she never gives any comment or appreciation on my work.

Now I know…

I’ve learned from her that she doesn’t like the fact that my whole website is in English. « You are a francophone, you live in a french city, this is the main reason your work doesn’t talk to me…»

Seriously I was shocked!

I switch to English about a year ago because I wanted to be understood by the whole world. No matter if you are German, Greek, Palestinian, if I write in English, you’ll understand me. That’s it!

That doesn’t mean I am not proud of where I am from… I have even kept a french word in this website’s title, Just to emphasize on this aspect of my culture.

Anyway, here is, in picture, a part of me. A part of my culture and a part of my country.

  2. Très belles photos! Je suis australien et je t’écris en français parce que je veux dire que je comprends pas pourquoi elle a dit ça. Si tu veux écrire en anglais c’est car presque tout le monde ici est un anglophone, non? Ça veut pas dire que t’es pas fier de la France ou quoi.. you’re a great photographer, I love your work 🙂

  6. wow, first i want to tell you… you just cant please everyone?:) i follow a few people on here, who stay with their own language… some times i can switch it to English, sometimes i cant ..but the purpose is to look at their work, or so i thought? anyway, i just want to tell you, i love your photography!!!And with these shots i get a real sense of your roots:()!! well done my friend.

  7. Née au Québec comme toi, je défends farouchement le droit de vivre en français au Québec . Et je suis prof de français chez les immigrants. Mais ici nous sommes sur la planète word. Ciel! faut savoir faire la part des choses. Tu me parles en français quand je commente en français. On m’a déjà suggéré de mettre le mien dans les 2 langues mais je ne connais pas assez l anglais. J’en vois qui publient dans les langues, mais c est un peu longuet. C’est ton bloque c’est ton choix. Ce qui m’importe ce sont tes photos.

    Great photos transcend cultures and languages. I do agree with you, and I think it’s a wise decision to go with English to reach the widest audience possible, if that’s what you wish to achieve. Imho. Nice shots.

  12. Je suis francophone et mon site est en anglais uniquement et par choix. C’est de jouer à l’autruche que de penser que l’auditoire de la planète web est majoritairement francophone, il est anglophone. Faire ce genre de critique sur la langue utilisée est comme dire Bombardier ou le Cirque du soleil devrait faire affaire en français seulement hors Québec. La réalité est quand on sort des frontières du Québec, c’est en anglais que ça se passe.

    I’m happy you decided to stick to English, you reach out to many more people this way… so many more people will get to know St. Laurent and Quebec.. me included 🙂
